Welcome to the first annual FARM Songwriting Contest. We want to hear your best work! Songs will be judged based on lyrics and music. Winners will be awarded an official showcase at the October 2017 FARM Conference.

2017 FARM Official Showcase and DJ/Venue Showcase participants and are not eligible.  If you later accept a DJ / Venue Showcase slot for 2017, you will not be eligible for the Songwriting Contest Official Showcase slot.

You must be available to attend the FARM Conference from October 19th – 21st, 2017

Songwriters are invited to send 1-3 entries. The fee for each song is $10.  Pay for your entry(s) HERE

You must be the writer or co-writer of each song you submit. Writer(s) retain all rights to the songs. By entering the contest, you are representing and warranting to FARM and Folk Alliance International that you are the writer of each song you submit, and that no one else has rights to the song.  

The contest coordinator will email a confirmation of your entry within 2 business days.

You must be a member of Folk Alliance. If you are not already a member, please consider supporting our community by becoming a member. You can check on your member status or become a member by going to

All entries must be accompanied by the full entry fee of $10 for each song. You can pay for your entry one of two ways:

  • Send a check to: Lola Tyler c/o Wheatland Music Org, P O Box 22, Remus, MI 49340. Indicate on the check that it is for the 2017 FARM Songwriting Contest
  • Follow the “pay for things” link on the FARM website

All entries must be received by 10pm Central on August 31st, 2017. FARM reserves the right to extend the deadline in its sole discretion.  

Three award winners will be chosen. Each winner will receive one official showcase slot at the 2017 Farm Conference – October 19th-21st

Winners will be notified by email before September 18th. An announcement to the public will follow.

Submit your songs via email to please include:

  • Your name (and stage/band name if different from your own), e-mail address and telephone number.

  • The name of each song, along with the name(s) of the songwriter(s) for each song.

  • Lyrics for each song.

  • Youtube or other link to your song. No MP3 or other file attachments, please.

  • Videos can be informal and do not need to be professional quality. Although sound quality should be good. Judging will be on the quality of the music & lyrics and not based on the quality of the video. The preferred submission has no video just a cover photo.

  • Songs should be submitted on separate links. Please do not send a link to an album or video compilation containing multiple songs.

  • You may submit up to 3 songs ($10 fee for each song – Pay for your entry(s) HERE). You may submit all songs on a single email.
