It is the unanimous opinion of FARM's Board of Directors
that FARM will best promote the growth of folk music and dance in
the Midwest if we do all we can to foster a sense of community among
our members.
The competitive approach to the business might make
sense on the crowded coasts. It does not make sense in the Midwest,
where it is not uncommon for performers to travel fifty miles just
to rehearse with their own band, and drive two or three hundred
miles between Friday and Saturday night bookings.
Here it is good for presenters to cooperate in booking touring
musicians. It is good sense for performers to encourage each other
to develop skill and help each other find places to play. It is
just plain good for all of us, performers and presenters alike,
to come together as often as we can to meet, talk, learn from, dance
and sing with each other. This is the spirit found at annual FARM
gatherings.
FARM is committed to expanding its programming to carry out its
mission. Recent new projects include:
Youth
outreach
Gatherings tailored
to specific groups (ie. presenters, media)
Establishing corporate
and individual sponsorship of workshop presenters
Regular communication
with other regional Folk organizations
FARM invites you to contribute your talents to this supportive community.
Together we promote the growth of Folk music and dance in the Midwest
for the good of ourselves, our communities and future generations.
We hope this website will suggest ways you can join in.
