Meals

The food served at our meals in 2016 got rave reviews, so this year’s menu will be similar at the Sheraton Iowa City.  Below is the menu for one of the brunches and the dinner last year.  We always include some items for individuals on  Vegetarian or Vegan diets.  The Sheraton Iowa City features a chef (Chef Olson’s bio follows) focused on sustainability and farm (appropriate, no?) to table cooking.  All meals will be served at the Sheraton’s sister facility, the beautiful Hotel Vetro, right next door.

Meal costs are tiered this year ($80 prior to September 1, $90 Sept 1 and later, $100 after Oct 1) so sign up early!!

After Oct 10th, only a limited number of meals are still available – your order will be filled first come, first served, no promises.

 

Chef Olson is an alumni of the prestigious Culinary Institute of America in New York City.

He has spent over twenty years building a career in such places as The Troon North Golf Club, Scottsdale as the Executive Chef, Paradise Valley, AZ; and two years at a 2 star Michelin restaurant in Chicago to name a few. He has spent three and an half years in Iowa City where he placed in the Downtown Top Chef Competition and continues to create and write new recipes.

When he is not in the kitchen cultivating his love of cooking he enjoys spending time with his two children, sketching, bike riding and participating in open mic nights where he show cases his musical talents.  Maybe he’ll sing to us as we eat?

Friday and Saturday Brunch Buffet (sample menu from 2016):

Sliced seasonal fruit and berries, chef’s assortment of breakfast items, fruit jellies, jams and sweet butter, huevos rancheros, chorizo and egg burrito, spiced breakfast potatoes with peppers and onions, marinated & grilled garden vegetable platter with basil olive oil, mozzarella with tomatoes and basil leaves, cheese blintzes with berry compote, eggs florentine with spinach, tomato & hollandaise, smoked bacon and country sausage links, home fried potatoes,   herb grilled marinated chicken breast, grilled Atlantic salmon with herb bernaise, omelets, waffles.

Friday Dinner Buffet (sample menu from 2016):

Minestrone soup, antipasto including asparagus, onion wedges, artichoke hearts, red peppers, and button mushrooms, caesar salad with croutons and parmesan shavings, caprese salad, chicken saltimbocca with sauteed spinach and ribbons of browned prosciutto. fried breaded eggplant slices baked with herb and tomato sauce, topped with parmesan cheese, slow roasted sliced strip loin of beef with rosemary au jus. mussels scampi sauteed in white wine, fresh sliced garlic cloves and basil ribbons, penne pasta with sun dried tomato pesto cream, italian vegetables, warm rolls, foccacia, garlic and parmesan breadsticks, dessert tray.

 

Special Thursday dinner at The Mill $20.

This will feature entertainment by FARM musicians. It all takes place at The Mill, Iowa City’s premier mid size music venue, located one block from our hotel.  Dinner will be a limited menu (three choices – see below).  This will be a GREAT way to get into the swing of FARM, enjoy some great music, and enjoy a meal with the FARM community.
