Private Showcases

Private Showcases are always exciting spaces for performing and listening each night of the conference (Thur, Fri & Sat) from 10:30 PM to 2:30 AM!

Private Showcase host applicants must be registered for the FARM conference before applying to be a host. Artists must be registered for the FARM conference before booking a Private Showcase.

Our goal is to make sure everyone who wants to perform has at least one opportunity. To that end, we ask artists and bands be limited to 3 showcases, including Official Showcases, DJ Showcases, all Private Showcases, and Performance Lane. Performance Lane is included in the 3-showcase limit. We also ask Private Showcase hosts to help by not booking artists who already have three showcases.

Important Dates:

June 1: Applications open for Private Showcase hosts. Host applicants must be registered for the FARM conference before applying.

June 30: Deadline for Private Showcase host applications.

July 15: Private Showcase hosts are announced, and hosts may begin booking. Artists must be registered for the FARM conference before booking a Private Showcase.

Sept 11: Deadline for hosts to submit final showcase lineup.

More Private Showcase Info

We’ve done our best to anticipate your questions, so please read through the following information carefully. For remaining questions, contact Joy Zimmerman at joyzimmermanmusic@gmail.com or Angie Ward at abbondi1155@hotmail.com. To sign up for the First Timer Room or ask questions about that specific showcase, contact Smitty at info@farmfolk.org.

Interested in hosting a Private Showcase Room?

As in previous years, we expect more people will be interested in hosting a Private Showcase than we can accommodate. We want to offer performers a wide range of opportunities without spreading the audience too thin. Even if you have hosted a Private Showcase in the past, please do not assume that you will be able to host this year, and please do not offer a slot to a performer unless you have been confirmed as a host.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding!

NOTE TO FARM FIRST TIME ATTENDEES:

We will again have a Private Showcase room reserved for first time attendees.  If this is your first time registering for FARM, you are eligible! The First Timer Room will feature a series of 30 minute in-the-round performances, each consisting of three first time attendees.  Spots in this room will be assigned based your request with priority based on REGISTRATION ORDER.

Email our First Timer Room Coordinator with your interest and any date/time preferences.

NOTE:  There is no charge for performing in the First Timer Room. FARM is happy to sponsor this private showcase room.

Private Showcase Info & Etiquette

We want to thank all of our hosts. Private Showcases take place from 10:30 PM to 2:30 AM Thursday, Friday & Saturday night time (which is more accurately Friday, Saturday and Sunday morning, but for our purposes it’s still night time). It’s possible that rooms will be hosted by different folks on different nights. The Whova app will have the complete list of private showcase hosts and contact information.

PLEASE BE COURTEOUS!

  • Watch your volume: Remember there are other performances nearby, and we want everyone to have the best opportunity to be heard.
  • Watch your time: Be sure to arrive on time, end your performance at the scheduled time, and make way for the next performer. Please do any socializing quietly outside the room.
  • Plan ahead: Prepare your set in advance and know the timing, including talking and tuning.

PLEASE BE RESPECTFUL!
Hosts are responsible for the condition of their rooms. Snacks and beverages are allowed; however, if you partake in a room’s offerings, not only do we expect you to clean up after yourself, we trust you’ll stay for at least one showcase!

NO AMPLIFIED INSTRUMENTS!
These are designed to be all acoustic performances (no mics, PAs, etc) so please plan accordingly.  The only exceptions are instruments that need amplification to be heard like a keyboard or electric guitar, but they must be kept at a low volume — the equivalent of an unamplified human voice.

ADVERTISE YOUR SHOWCASE! We encourage you to spread the word about your showcases. It’s appropriate to make small handouts with your showcase schedule.

PLEASE HAVE FUN!!
This is primarily for audience members, but we hope our performers will have fun as well! We trust you’ll have a hard time deciding where to go, but make sure you schedule in some acts you’ve never heard before. Discovery is the best part of any conference!

Important Info for Hosts

      • Full conference registration is required for ALL performers, hosts, and host helpers. Hosts cannot book artists that are not already registered.
      • All Private Showcases are held in large conference rooms. This allows performers and attendees a more open space to enjoy the showcases and a better opportunity to protect their health.
      • Please note that FARM WILL NOT be providing hosts with rooms where they can sleep. Hosts need to lodge in a hotel room separate from their Private Showcase room. Hosts also need to plan for any storage needs. Private Showcase rooms will be made available to hosts at dinnertime on the day of their showcases. Rooms must be cleaned up following each night’s performances to allow for other activities in those rooms during the daytime.
      • Each showcase room will have plenty of chairs.
      • Private Showcases begin at 10:30 PM and end at 2:30 AM on Thursday, Friday & Saturday nights.
      • These are designed to be all acoustic performances (no mics, PAs, etc) so please plan accordingly. The only exceptions are instruments that need amplification to be heard like a keyboard or electric guitar, but they must be kept at a low volume — the equivalent of an unamplified human voice. All rooms must be quiet after 2:30pm.
      • Some Private Showcase hosts may choose to charge the showcasing artists a small fee to help offset the cost of their room, refreshments, and advertising. This option is at the discretion of each individual host. Set times and number of performers “in the round” per set is also at the discretion of each host.
      • Three Showcase Limit: Our goal is to make sure everyone who wants to perform has at least one opportunity. To that end, we ask artists to limit themselves to no more than three showcases (this includes Official Showcases, DJ Showcases, Private Showcases and Performance Lane). We also expect Private Showcase hosts to ask each performer whether they have already booked three showcases and not book performers who reached the limit of three.
      • FARM will once again host a First Timers Room, free of charge to musicians. A performance in this room DOES count towards the three showcase limit.

We need your final lineup by September 11. You will be provided with a template since we need the information in a very specific format.

How to Solicit Private Showcase MUSICIANS or HOSTS

Private Showcase Host contact information will be shared by July 15 via our Whova conference app. You must be registered for the conference in order to access our list of private showcase hosts.

The best way to solicit hosts is to contact them directly by email once they have been announced (July 15).

Some Private Showcase Hosts may choose to charge the showcasing artists a small fee to help offset the cost of their room, refreshments and advertising. This is optional and at the discretion of each individual host.

ABSOLUTELY NO guerrilla or any other type of in-room showcasing will be allowed in any other rooms or at any other times.

NOTE: Three Showcase Limit
Our goal is to make sure everyone who wants to perform has at least one opportunity. To that end, we ask artists to limit themselves to no more than three showcases (this includes Official Showcases, DJ Showcases, Private Showcases and Performance Lane). We also expect Private Showcase hosts to ask each performer whether they have already booked three showcases and not book performers who have reached the limit of three

Private Showcase Room Host Application

We need to know how many nights and which nights you are interested in hosting a room, and what you will accept if we cannot accommodate your preferences. Keep in mind that if we have more people who would like to host than we have rooms available, we may need to make adjustments and ask you to host fewer nights than you requested. We will do our best to accommodate as many people who wish to host as possible, but circumstances may prevent us from meeting everyone’s particular preferences. Please select how many nights you would like to host if possible.

If offered 1 night, which night would you prefer to host.

If offered 2 nights, which nights would you prefer to host.

Have you hosted a Private Showcase Room before? (Includes FARM, other Regions, FAI) NOTE: We like new hosts and new ideas! Just because you’ve never hosted a room before doesn’t mean you’ll be excluded, we just want to get an idea of the experience level for our hosts

Will you be sleeping in the showcase room?

If YES: Do you prefer 2 Queen or 1 King? (no guarantees, but we will do our best)

3 + 10 =
