Coffee Break for Fans & Friends - Friday 1p

You’re not a performer, a DJ, or an agent; you don’t organize a festival, run a venue, or practice entertainment law.  What you do is much more important:  You show up at concerts and events, invite your friends, and buy CDs. In other words, you are our beloved AUDIENCE!

Gather at the hotel restaurant over coffee or drinks, and get better acquainted with your fellow music fans.  Share stories of that epic road trip to see your favorite performer.  Exchange ideas about what audience members can do to support the arts.  The performers and venues at FARM are very glad you’re here!

Hosted by Joanne Smidde-Brush
Where: in the Hotel Bar

Now See Hear

Folk Alliance Region Midwest (FARM) has an exciting new initiative for 2018 that brings visual art into our conference. Visual artists from the Lansing and Grand Rapids area are participating in ‘Now See Hear’, a program modeled after Folk Alliance Region Far-West’s program, led by Phil Ward.

Each artist was randomly assigned a song by one of FARM’s 2018 Official Showcase musicians. These songs are inspiring the creation of visual art, which will be displayed at the FARM conference along with a link to listen to the song while enjoying the art.

Each piece of art, along with the song link, will be displayed on this page as they are completed.

Musicians attending the FARM conference are encouraged to write a song inspired by one of these pieces of art, and share that song with FARM, creating an ongoing circle of art and music.

FARM Preview Concert - Tuesday, Oct 23

The One Trick Pony is a popular well established restaurant/bar/music venue in Grand Rapids. We’ve gathered a batch of early arrivals to our town along with some local acts to perform and enjoy each other’s company a couple days ahead of the conference. Are you coming early? The hotel will honor our discounted rate for Tuesday night, so if your schedule permits, why not drop in and grab some food. Performers to be announced very soon! Show starts at 7p

Straggler's Open Mic - Sunday 6p

Having too much fun to leave? Not in a hurry to get home? Maybe want to soak up a bit more FARM family warmth and community? We’re hosting an afterglow open mic at one of Michigan’s fine brewery’s, Founders Brewing! Hosted by Nicholas J. Thomasma, this open mic is exclusively for FARM attendees who are till around. Founders is a music venue and this could be a great opportunity to be heard by the bookers, but mostly we’re hoping to prolong the fun! Wanna play? Just show up!
